Last night was our final night in Byron Bay, so the alarm woke us up at about 8.30am this morning and then we packed our bags up and went and had some breakfast. Afterwards, we got a lift to the bus-stop with a guy from the hostel and caught the 9.50am bus to Surfers Paradise.
The scenery when were driving up the East coast of Australia is stunning! On one side we have the crystal blue ocean and on our left we had stunning lakes.
Our journey to Surfers Paradise took about 2 hours - and we arrived at around 12pm. From what we've heard from people along the way, Surfers Paradise seems to be where everyone goes for a holiday - and the first thing that struck us when we got here was how similar it was to Miami! It has a huge 29km beach with gorgeous white sand, loads of shops (all centered around one area) and a couple of 'fancy' high-rise apartment blocks.
We went into the bus station and they arranged for our hostel, which is called 'Sleeping Inn', to come and collect us. It was quite cool, because when they did - they arrived in a limo! We dropped our bags off and then went out to explore. On our way into the centre, we came across a Hard Rock Café and Nikki said she'd treat us to lunch out of her birthday money (yep, still got some!). I ordered a cobb salad and Nikki ordered a cheese-burger, and then we shared half each.
After a while, we bumped into Adam and Ash (from Coffs Harbour) and they said they were sharing an apartment with some girls they'd met - so we went to check it out. They were already pretty drunk because they'd been drinking 'Goon' (cheap wine) all day. Afterwards we went out to check on prices of other hostels. The one we're staying in tonight is one of our free ones (as part of our tour).
On our way back this evening, we stopped a bought some beer in one of the bottle shops and went to Adam and Ash's who by now they were absolutely wasted - and they invited us in for a party, because they're heading to Brisbane in the morning. We stayed for a couple of hours - drinking, dancing, being silly and having a good time. At one point, a Japanese girl called Yuki (who was also from the Coffs Harbour hostel) turned up (small world).
At about 11pm, all the beer had gone (even though Nikki had gone out to buy more) and so we figured we'd better head back to our hostel. When we got there, one of the guys we were sharing with (we're in a four-bed dorm) was sat in the living room, reading, (our place is like a 2-bed flat, with four beds in each room, a small kitchen and bathroom), and another was in bed. So, as quietly as we could, we got ready and crashed out in 'the squeakiest bed ever!'
Here's to Adam and Ash - absolute Nutters!
