Friday 17th August 2007

The alarm went off nice and early this morning because, when we were out and about yesterday, we'd bought tickets to go to Australia Zoo (the Steve Irwin one) and the free bus left from town at about 8.30am.

We were picked up in town by a big double-decker bus, with Australia Zoo and pictures of Steve Irwin plastered all over it, and on the journey there were shown some of his videos. We got to the zoo after nearly an hours drive and the first thing that struck us was the size of the place... it looked huge (we later found out that it is currently 72 acres - and in the next 10 years they're going to extend it to over 1000 acres... crikey!)

Our day at the zoo was great fun - although at times it was quite sad. Everywhere you go, there are pictures of Steve Irwin with his wife and children, or videos playing - and he seemed like such a nice guy - someone who was really dedicated to what he was doing. His idea was that, to love animals, you need to be able to interact with the animals - and that's what we did... I got to feed an elephant some fruit. We got to pet koala bears as they sat in their trees and we got to smooth some kangaroos as they lay sunbathing. Plus, we got to see the famous crocodile show in the zoo's Crocoseum.

We seen some really cool animals - my favourite was the Tasmanian Devil. He was just running round in circles - looking like he was losing his mind, while the female next door just sat in one place barking out something (probably orders) - and it reminded of me and Nikki (he he).

When the park was closing, we made our way back onto the bus and it brought us back to Noosa - getting us into town at about 5pm. Tonight, Nikki made us a pasta with pesto for our tea and when we were finished we went across to a pub called Irish Murphy's.

Blimey! Australia Zoo was a ripper!
