Sunday 23rd December 2007

When we woke up this morning, we had our breakfast outside in the courtyard - and it was already getting pretty warm, apparently Christmas is gonna be a hot one this year. Once we'd finished and got ourselves ready we decided that we'd spend the day around the city, and set off in the sunshine.

We started by walking around the shops and by visiting a place called London Court, which is like walking down a street in England - it was quite cool, with really impressive buildings and little shops crammed with things. Emma is obviously having trouble adjusting to the Australian weather, because she decided to treat herself... to a sweatshirt! It is a nice one though - plus it says Australia 07 on it, so that's quite fitting.

Afterwards we sat in the main square, where we ate some sarnies Nikki had made us, before walking over to Tourist Information. We wanted to visit the Perth Mint but were told, because it's the weekend, it had shut at 1pm. Instead we split up and went to finish our Christmas shopping. Nikki went off on her own and Emma came with me. Even though we walked in different directions, we still managed to bump into Nikki in a surf shop - and she thought I was spying, trying to see what I was getting for Christmas. I wasn't... honest!

Once we were finished in town we came back to the hostel this evening and Nikki made us pork chops and salad for our tea. At about 8pm we walked back into town to go to Carols By Candlelight. We weren't expecting much, because it wasn't very well advertised, but when we got there there were over 15,000 people sat in the park. We were all given a candle when we walked in and as the sun set we lit them - which was a really impressive sight, plus one hell of a fire hazard! Nikki even burnt her finger quite badly, when the plastic around the candle melted and landed on her hand! There were loads of singers, plus a huge band and choir and the whole thing was pretty good - it was a nice way to end the day.

Yippee... it's Christmas Eve tomorrow!
